I lifted my right hand, reaching for my iron stake out of instinct, even though I knew it would do no good against the prince.

“You shouldn’t do that.” His voice was deep with what reminded me of an English accent. “I know you want to, but it would be very, very unwise of you, Ivy.”

My hand twitched.

Creepy Prince smiled slightly. “Your friend has been very helpful.”

That got my hackles up. I slid my sunglasses onto my forehead and forced my tone to stay calm and level. “I’m sure she has. Speaking of Val, happen to know where I can find her?”

His lips curled in a semblance of a smile as he stepped closer. The prince was tall, taller than Ren, who was pushing six foot two. My entire back stiffened as I forced myself to hold my ground, even though every instinct demanded that I run and run super fast, because he had almost killed me once before. Correction. He would have definitely killed me if he hadn’t realized what I was and had, I guessed, healed me.

“I’ve been waiting for you,” he said, instead of answering my question, his pale blue eyes fixed on mine.

My hand curled into a useless fist. “That is extremely creepy to hear.”

That cold smile returned. “Why don’t we talk? There are seats across the way.”

“Yeah, that’s not going to happen.”

The slow smile increased but never reached his eyes. “Oh, I know it is.”

Fine hairs rose on my arms.

“What exactly can you do right now?” he said in the same coldly polite voice. “Refuse me?” Creepy Prince laughed, and it wasn’t a bad sound. Again, it was something that was just cold, as if he were mimicking what a human would do. “You can’t.”

“I can.” My palm itched to grab the thorn stake secured under my pant leg, but I held still. I might be reckless, but I wasn’t stupid.

“Really? I will have to beg to differ on that. You see, humans surround us. So many of them, and I have an extraordinary appetite.” His eyes appeared to glimmer as his gaze slithered from the top of my curly head down to my toes. “A rather impressive appetite for many, many things.”

“Okay. First off, ew.” My lip curled. “Secondly, I don’t want to hear about any of your appetites.”

One dark eyebrow rose. “Oh, but you should know that I could kill twenty of these humans in less than five seconds and feed on the rest, leaving them to believe that it was this little red-headed girl who murdered these innocent people.” His voice dropped even lower as he leaned in and icy air brushed my cheek. “You deny me this, those lives will be on your hands, little bird.”

Anger flushed hotly as my eyes met his. There wasn’t a single part of me that doubted anything he said. He had me. God, I hated to admit it, but he had me.

Dusty, empty shoe boxes, stacked taller and wider than her slim body, wobbled as she pressed her back against them, tucking her bony knees into her chest.

Breathe. Just Breathe. Breathe.

Wedged in the back of the dingy closet, she didn’t dare make a sound as she sucked her lower lip between her teeth. Focusing on forcing every grimy breath into her lungs, she felt tears well in her eyes.

Oh gosh, she’d made such a big mistake, and Miss Becky was right. She was a bad girl.

She’d reached for the dirty and stained cookie jar earlier, the one shaped like a teddy bear that hid cookies that tasted funny. She wasn’t supposed to get cookies or any food by herself, but she’d just been so hungry that her tummy hurt, and Miss Becky was sick again, napping on the couch. She hadn’t meant to knockthe ashtray off the counter, shattering it into tiny pieces. Some were shaped like icicles that clung to the roof during the winter. Others were no bigger than chips.

Her slender shoulders jerked at the sound of the all cracking on the other side of the closet. She bit down harder on her lip. A metallic taste burst into her mouth. Tomorrow there would be a hold the size of Mr. Henry’s big hand in theplaster, and Miss Becky would cry and she’d get sick again.

The soft creak of the closet door was like a crack of thunder to her ears.

He wasn’t supposed to find her in here. This was her safe place whenever Mr. Henry was angry or when he—

She tensed, eyes peeling wide as a body taller and broader than hers slipped inside and then knelt in front of her. In the dark, she couldn’t make out much of his features, but she knew in her belly and her chest who it was.

“I’m sorry,” she gasped.

“I know.” A hand settled on her shoulder, the weight reassuring. He was theonly person she felt okay with when he touched her. “I need you to stay in here, ‘kay?”

Miss Becky had said once that he was only six months older than her six years, but he always seemed so much bigger, older than her, because in her eyes, he took up her entire world.

She nodded.

“Don’t come out,” he said, and then he pressed into her hands theredheaded doll she’d dropped in the kitchen after she broke the ashtray and rushed into the closet. Too frightened to retrieve her, she’d left Velvet where she had fallen, and she’d been so upset because the doll had been a gift from him many, many months before. She had no idea how he’d gotten Velvet, but one day he’d simply shown up with her, and she was hers, only hers.

“You stay in here. No matter what.”

Holding the doll close, clenched between her knees and chest, she nodded again.

He shifted, stiffening as an angry shout rattled the walls around them. It was her name that dripped ice down her spine; her name that was shouted so furiously.

A small whimper parted her lips and she whispered, “I just wanted a cookie.”

“It’s okay. Remember? I promised I’d keep you safe forever. Just don’t make a sound.” He squeezed her shoulder. “Just stay quiet, and when I…when I get back, I’ll read to you, ‘kay? All about the stupid rabbit.”

All she could do was nod again, because there had been times when she hadn’t stayed quiet and she’d never forgotten those consequences. But if she stayed quiet, she knew what was coming. He wouldn’t be able to read to her tonight. Tomorrow he would miss school and he wouldn’t be okay even though he would tell her he was.

He lingered for a moment and then he eased out of the closet. Thebedroom door shut with a smack, and she lifted the doll, pressing her tearstained face into it. A button on Velvet’s chest poked at her cheek.

Mr. Henry started to yell.

Dragele noastre, Damon Black s-a intors! Ce dor ne-a fost de el!

Am fost extraordinar de incantata cand am aflat ca autoarea mea preferata (una dintre ele), Jennifer L. Armentrout, planuieste sa mai adauge un volum seriei LUX. Apoi am aflat ca, de fapt, Oblivion nu este o continuare, ci o repovestire a evenimentelor principale din primele trei carti, din perspectiva lui Daemon. Posibil sa fi fost putin dezamagita. Dar numai putin, pentru ca Daemon este unul dintre cele mai amuzanti eroi si nimic din ce poate contine referinte la el nu trebuie ratat.

“I’ve always found that the most beautiful people, truly beautiful inside and out, are the ones who are quietly unaware of their effect. The ones who throw their beauty around, waste what they have? Their beauty is only passing. It’s just a shell hiding nothing but shadows and emptiness.”

Spre placuta mea surpriza, cartea are multe scene noi, cum de altfel era si normal. Ar fi trebuit sa retin ca, in primele trei volume, Daemon nu era in permanenta cu Katy, deci mai facea si alte lucruri, pe langa activitatea principala, de a-si chinui vecina de alaturi.

Din aceste scene reusim sa aflam mai multe despre personalitatea si modul de gandire al lui Damon. Daca atunci cand am citit primele carti imi puneam sute de intrebari, pentru ca pur si simplu erau momente in care nu imi dadeam seama de ce se comporta asa, in Oblivion am gasit raspuns la toate.

“I brushed the curtain aside, scowling. Hadn't even spoken to the girl and I felt like a stalker staring out the window, waiting once more...waiting for what? To catch a glimpse of her? Or to better prepare myself for the inevitable meeting? 

If Dee saw me now, she'd be on the floor laughing. 

And if Ash saw me right now, she'd scratch out my eyes and blast my new neighbor into outer space.”

In primul rand aflam de ce incerca sa o tina pe Katy departe de Dee. Apoi descoperim de unde tot scoate acele replici pe care le adoram cu totii (e vorba doar de gura lui mare care o ia mereu inainte, dar mai bine va prefaceti ca nu v-am spus asta), cunoastem mai multi Luxeni din colonie si, poate cel mai important, vedem motivul pentru care pur si simplu nu poate sa stea departe de Katy.

Pe langa scenele cu Dee, fratii Thompson, si Katy, pe care ni le amintim din primele carti, avem si scene noi cu cei doi, unele care va vor face sa ii iubiti si mai mult.

“I think you need to look in the mirror if you think that's gorgeous"

"Ha," Andrew said, grinning.

"We"re identical." Adam shook his head at his twin. "He's insulting both of us, you idiot”

Daca sunteti fani ai seriei Lux, Oblivion este cu siguranta cartea pe care nu trebuie sa o ratati. E vorba, pana la urma, de Daemon Black, asa ca dati fuga la librarie si puneti mana pe ea!

Unele cicatrice nu sunt vizibile cu ochiul liber.

Până la vârsta de 21 de ani, Calla n-a avut parte de multe lucruri. N-a fost sărutată niciodată, n-a văzut niciodată oceanul, n-a ajuns niciodată într-un parc de distracții. În schimb, în timp ce creștea, a fost martora anumitor lucruri pe care un copil n-ar trebui să le vadă. Încă poartă urmele fizice și sufletești ale traiului împreună cu o mamă dependentă de alcool și de droguri, pe nume Mona. Sunt multe lucruri pe care Calla le ține secret față de toată lumea, inclusiv de cercul ei de prieteni apropiați de la facultate.

Însă carapacea pe care și-a construit-o cu atâta grijă se năruie atunci când descoperă că mama ei i-a furat banii pentru plata facultății și a acumulat o uriașă datorie cu un card de credit pe numele ei. Acum, Calla e nevoită să se întoarcă în orășelul pe care crezuse că l-a părăsit pentru totdeauna și să înfrunte din nou harababura creată de mama ei. Evident, când ajunge la barul mamei sale, Mona nu e de găsit. În locul ei, nimerește peste un tip trăsnet, de un metru optezi, pe numele său Jackson James, care toarnă băuturi și face localul să zbârnâie.

Sexy și plin de zel, Jax se amestecă în treburile ei încă din clipa în care se cunosc, oferindu-i o slujbă și ajutând-o s-o caute pe Mona. Iar felul în care o privește îi dă limpede de înțeles că vrea să ajungă la orizontală… și poate chiar ceva mai mult. Cu toate acestea, până să-i permită să se apropie, Calla trebuie să-și înfrunte suferințele trecutului… și pe câțiva băieți răi porniți s-o maltrateze dacă nu le-o predă pe mama ei.

Jennifer L. Armentrout ne cucerește din nou. Rămâi cu mine este un urmaș demn al volumelor anterioare, Te aștept și Te doresc. 

În primul rând, vreau să vă spun că sunt o mare fană a Brigăzii tipilor trăsnet. Am o pasiune eternă pentru Cam și mă bucur că, în sfârșit, am reușit să-mi iau porția mult așteptată. Nu cred că merită cineva mai mult ca el să fie liderul Brigăzii tipilor trăsnet. 

Revenind la lucruri serioase, Rămâi cu mine se înscrie cu succes în lista de cărți citite pe nerăsuflate și a celor care m-au cucerit de la prima pagină. Pentru mine, o carte bună nu este o carte care îți așterne pagini pline de cuvinte în fața ochilor, ci una care îți derulează în față un film, ale cărui personaje și poveste sunt deja alese, dar tu ești cel care le aduce la viață, cel care decide acele mici detalii care le diferențiază și le oferă unicitate.

Focul i-a răpit Callei cei doi frați și a lăsat-o cu un tată care nu a așteptat mai mult de un an înainte să fugă și să o lase în urmă, cu o mamă dependentă de droguri și cu cicatrice adânci, care îi brăzdează partea stângă a feței, pieptul și spatele. Acum, are un plan: să ajungă asistentă și să nu se mai întoarcă niciodată Playmounth Meeting.

Însă, când mama ei fuge cu banii de facultate și o lasă cu foarte multe datorii, Calla este obligată să se întoarcă în orașul natal, pe care, în urmă cu doi ani, l-a părăsit fără nicio intenție de a privi înapoi. Dar ceea ce o așteaptă aici este un dezastru cu mult mai mare decât și-ar fi putut închipui că poate lăsa în urmă mama ei. Și de data asta, Calla nu mai poate rezolva singură problemele pe care le-a creat Mona, din cauza dependenței sale de droguri. Prinsă între dealeri de droguri și un trecut pe care s-a străduit să-l uite, ea primește ajutor de unde se așteaptă mai puțin.

Jax are și el, la rândul lui, cicatrice. Urme ale războiului și propriile experiențe dureroase, cu membri ai familiei îngenunchiați de dependență și fuga de amintiri dureroase. Dar, când Calla intră pe ușa barului Monațs, știe că nu o poate lăsa să fugă, pentru că el deja o iubește, încă dinainte ca ea să-i știe numele. În afară de asta, ea are nevoie de ajutorul lui, dacă vrea să scape cu viață din labirintul de necazuri pe care l-a lăsat în urmă mama ei.

Jax este barmanul mult prea sexy al barului părinților ei, în care Calla și-a petrecut cea mai mare parte a copilăriei și adolescenței. Oricât de mult ar striga că se poate descurca singură, mulțimea de întâmplări periculoase prin care trece îi demonstrează că are mare nevoie de protecția lui Jax. Totuși, să petreacă noaptea sub același acoperiș cu el se dovedește a fi mai dificil decât pare.

Spre deosebire de Avery și Teresa, Calla are urme vizibile ale trecutului, dar mi-e greu să spun care dintre cele trei a suferit mai mult și nici măcar nu contează asta, pentru că toate au dat dovadă de un puternic instinct de supraviețuire. 

La fel ca Jase și Cam, Jax nu este perfect, dar este modelul de bărbat pe care toate femeile îl caută, acela care observă nu numai partea frumoasă a vieții, ci este capabil să vadă dincolo de aparențe și să-ți fie alături în momentele grele, să te aștepte până când reușești să spargi zidul trecutului și să îți zâmbească la linia de sosire în drumul spre fericire.

Jax întrunește toate condițiile pentru a intra în brigadă, iar Calla este la fel de reticentă în fața iubirii ca și Avery și Jase, dar norocul ei este că lui Jax nici prin cap nu-i trece să o lase să se ascundă în cochilia ei.

Seria Te aștept se poate mândri cu o nouă poveste care nu doar că merită citită, ci merită chiar savurată, iar la ultima pagină vei ști cu siguranță că e o poveste care nu te va părăsi niciodată.

Unele lucruri merită să le aştepţi…

Să plece la mii de kilometri depărtare de casă pentru a se înscrie la colegiu e singura cale prin care tânăra de nouăsprezece ani, Avery Morgansten, poate scăpa de ceea ce i s-a întâmplat, în urmă cu cinci ani, la o petrecere de Halloween, care i-a schimbat pentru totdeauna viaţa. Tot ce trebuie să facă e să ajungă la timp la cursuri, să se asigure că brăţara de la încheietura mâinii stângi e la locul ei, să nu atragă deloc atenţia asupra propriei persoane şi poate — dă Doamne! — să-şi facă nişte prieteni, pentru că, fără îndoială, asta ar fi o schimbare bine-venită. Singurul lucru de care n-are nevoie şi la care nu s-a gândit este să-i trezească interesul singurului băiat care ar putea să-i zdruncine fragilul viitor pe care şi-l construieşte pentru ea însăşi.

Unele lucruri merită încercate…

Cameron Hamilton —1,90 mde fizic pentru care poţi să leşini, completat cu o pereche de ochi şocant de albaştri. Și cu o remarcabilă abilitate de a o face pe Avery să-şi dorească lucruri despre care crezuse că-i fuseseră răpite irevocabil. Ea ştie c-ar trebui să stea departe de el, dar Cam e înnebunitor de omniprezent, cu farmecul lui, cu tachinările lui isteţe şi cu păcătoasa aceea de gropiţă în obraz, atât de… să-ţi vină s-o mănânci. Să se încurce cu el e periculos, dar când nu mai e cu putinţă să ignore tensiunea clocotitoare ce scoate scântei ori de câte ori sunt unul în preajma celuilalt, el face să iasă la lumină o latură a ei despre care ea habar n-avea că o are.

Unele lucruri n-ar trebui trecute sub tăcere niciodată…

Dar când Avery începe să primească emailuri de ameninţare şi telefoane care o silesc să-şi înfrunte un trecut pe care ea îl voia îngropat, nu mai are de ales şi trebuie să admită că există cineva care nu-i îngăduie să uite de noaptea aceea când totul s-a schimbat. Când adevărul devastator va ieşi la iveală, o să mai scape ea şi de data asta întreagă, cu doar o cicatrice? Şi va putea Cam să fie acolo, s-o ajute să iasă la liman, sau va fi târât în adâncuri odată cu ea?

Iar pentru unele lucruri merită să lupţi…

Parerea mea:

Cum era de așteptat, Te aștept este una dintre seriile mele preferate :))). Dar, oricum, nu cred că vreo carte scrisă de Jennifer L. Armentrout/ J Lynn ar putea fi altfel decât nemaipomenită. Când am auzit prima dată că va apărea la editura Epica, am fost încântată, pentru că îmi doream foarte mult să o citesc și în limba română. 

Recenzia mea vine cam (Cam :D) târziu, dar asta se datorează faptului că meseria de student (și mai ales de student la Drept) nu este una ușoară.

Te aștept este cartea perfectă pentru vară, pornind de la un subiect delicat, care nu te lasă indiferent, dar cu o porție sănătoasă de umor și cu un protagonist de care te poți îndrăgosti numaidecât. Nu cred că poate cineva să citească Te aștept fără să râdă cu gura până la urechi și să verse măcar o lacrimă.

Avery Morgensten este fata bogată care ascunde un secret tulburător. Pentru prima dată după mai bine de cinci ani crede că este cu adevărat liberă. Tot ce și-a dorit a fost să o poată lua de la capăt, să se îndepărteze de trecut și de orice lucru care îi amintește de casă, iar acum a reușit. Are și doi prieteni, Jacob și Brit, care sunt exact genul de persoane de care are ea nevoie acum.

Cameron Hamilton este atrăgător, exact tipul băiatului din vecini, vesel, care îi poate readuce zâmbetul pe buze, fratele mai mare pe care orice fată și-l dorește. M-am îndrăgostit de el încă din primele pagini. Cum aș fi putut să nu o fac? Și, pentru că îmi este atât de drag, trebuie să recunosc că, uneori (destul de des), am avut senzația că Avery nu prea îl merită și că se comportă un pic exagerat. "Un pas înainte și doi înapoi" pare a fi descrierea perfectă a modului ei de viață și nu își dă seama că a trăi înseamnă a risca. Nu ai cum să știi mereu ce va urma.

Relația dintre Avery și Cam este complicată. După luni întregi în care ea îi respinge toate tentativele de a o cuceri, iar el nu se dă bătut, tocmai când se hotărăște să-l accepte, entuziasmul îi este spulberat de apariția unei persoane din trecut, care se întoarce să o bântuie. Singura ei șansă de a-l convinge pe Cam să se întoarcă la ea este să-i mărturisească totul despre noaptea de coșmar care a schimbat-o pentru totdeauna. Momentul în care i se destăinuiește mamei lui m-a emoționat, însă mi-ar fi plăcut ca ea să aibă la fel de multă încredere și în el. Dar este atât de îngrijorată și se străduiește atât de mult să-și păstreze secretele, încât ajunge cât pe ce să piardă iubirea vieții ei.

Uneori, în iubire, cea mai bună soluție este să aștepți.

Jennifer L. Armentrout/ J. Lynn reușește cu succes să combine drama cu replicile amuzante, rezultând astfel o lectură complexă, dar ușoară, care n-ar trebui să lipsească de pe lista de vara a niciunui iubitor de lectură.

P.S.: L-am adorat pe Raphael, animalul de companie perfect, și pe Michelangelo, al cărui sex a rămas incert și care este de departe cel mai frumos cadou de Ziua Îndrăgostiților.
