Povestea în imagini începe în 1766 și redă istoria unei familii de actori. Povestea în cuvinte începe în 1990 și vorbește despre iubire și familia cea adevărată care s-ar putea să nu fie, nicidecum, formată din rudele de sânge. Omenirea a ajuns prizoniera unor creaturi ivite din adancurile pamantului cand apune soarele, care distrug tot ce le iese in cale pana in zori. Atunci soarele le alunga in vagaunile din care au aparut.

Se intuneca si cei cativa supravietuitori se ascund in spatele unor simboluri magice, a caror putere se pierde in negura timpurilor. Anii trec, satele sunt din ce in ce mai departe unul de altul si demonii isi continua atacurile. Un mesager il invata pe Arlen ca frica e cel mai mare rau din lume. Leesha e distrusa din cauza unei minciuni. Destinul lui Rojer se schimba pentru totdeauna gratie unui drumet care poposeste in oras. Dar toti trei viseaza la o lume in care oamenii nu se vor mai ascunde in spatele zidurilor si simbolurilor magice.

Parerea mea:

Am inceput sa citesc “Omul pictat” in urma unor recenzii foarte positive postate de colegii mei bloggeri, pe care se intampla sa ii urmaresc zilnic si cu drag. Parerile acestora despre carte au fost atat de bune, incat nici nu am stat pe ganduri atunci cand am apelat la ajutorul editurii Nemira, carora le multumesc din suflet pentru exemplarul pe care mi l-au trimis. 

Vi s-a inamplat vreodata sa nu stiti ce anume vreti sa cititi? Sa deschideti un roman contemporan sau unul paranormal, iar apoi sa le inchideti de parca nu sunt de ajuns, ca si cum ati avea nevoie de ceva mai mult, de ceva care sa va stimuleze mintea, sa va acapareze cu totul si sa va rupa de realitate? Daca raspunsul este DA atunci romanul “Omul pictat” de Petter V. Brett, este povestea high-fantasy de care aveti nevoie. 

Actiunea cartii se petrece intr-o lume terorizata de demoni dupa caderea noptii. Demonii sau miezingii, cum mai sunt numiti, apar din miezul pamantului la caderea noptii si ataca asezarile oamenilor, ucigand tot ce le iese in cale. Singura bariera dintre omenire si demoni sunt glifele, simboluri magice care actioneaza ca o bariera la atacurile miezingilor, in spatele carora acestia se ascund ingroziti in fiecare noapte, asteptand ivirea zorilor, renuntand sa mai lupte impotriva creaturilor care le decimeaza rasa pe zi ce trece si sperand la sosirea Izbavitorului.

„Însă feţele lor erau identice; şiruri de dinţi articulaţi le ieşeau în afara fălcilor care formau un fel de bot, în timp ce nările se aflau cu mult mai aproape de ţeastă, chiar sub ochii mari, lipsiţi de pleoape. Oasele groase ale frunţii li se curbau în sus şi către spate, ieşind printre solzi sub forma unor coarne ascuţite. Sprâncenele le zvâcneau fără întrerupere, apăsându-se în jos şi îndepărtând nisipul suflat fără întrerupere de vânt.”

Daca sunteti reticenti din cauza numarului mare de pagini, va spun sincer ca nu aveti de ce, pentru ca romanul este scris intr-un stil cursiv, are actiune din plin si trei puncte de vedere a trei personaje superbe, de care nu aveti cum sa nu va atasati inca din primele capitole. 

Pe Arlen, Leesha si Rojer ii cunoastem cand sunt inca niste copii visatori si le urmam pasii prin adolescenta plina de intamplari nefericite, pana cand devin adulti puternici, supravietuitori si mai ales luptatori fara frica de intuneric. 

„Suntem ceea ce alegem să fim. Lasă-i pe alţii să-ţi hotărască valoarea, şi eşti deja pierdută, fiindcă nimeni nu vrea să-i ştie pe alţii mai valoroşi decât e el însuşi.”

Petter V. Brett ne ofera o lume complexa, plina de oameni interesanti, de situatii limita care ii imping pe protagonistii nostri la actiuni extreme. O carte careia i-am dat cu usurinta 5 stelute.

Recenzie! Cartea lunilor ( Cronicile Casterilor #2) de Margaret Stohl si Kami Garcia

Cartea Lunilor continua actiunea primului volum din seria Cronicile Casterilor, dezvaluind aspecte complicate ale relatiei dintre Ethan Wate si Lena Duchannes, descendenta din marea familie a Casterilor. Actiunea se precipita odata cu hotararea pe care aceasta trebuie s-o ia: fie sa se alature Intunericului, fie sa ramana in Lumina.

Oare va reusi Ethan sa o determine sa ia decizia corecta? Cartea reuseste sa surprinda atmosfera gotica a Sudului, cu personaje noi si surprinzatoare si sa-l poarte pe cititor intr-o lume fabuloasa  a demonilor.

În primul rând, mulțumesc librăriei online Libris pentru această carte. Pe site-ul lor puteți găsi atât cărți în română, cât și cărți în engleză.

Parerea mea:

Primul volum din seria Cronicile Casterilor mi-a placut mult, însă trebuie să vă spun că al doilea mi s-a părut grozav și a reușit să mă țină lipită de el până la ultima pagină. Nu vreau să fac o comparație intre cele două, pentru că distanța dintre apariții a fost foarte mare. De aceea, am preferat să trec cu vederea diferența de design a copertelor și să mă bucur că, deși într-un ritm extrem de lent, reușesc să-mi completez colecția.

Din păcate, timpul nu mi-a permis să recites A 16-a lună și am uitat multe amănunte, dar am reușit să îmi amintesc esențialul, astfel încât să pot continua cu volumul al doilea. 

Cartea lunilor reia povestea lui Ethan și a Lenei imediat după incidetul petrecut de ziua ei de naștere. Necazurile celor doi nu se opresc acolo și cei doi se confruntă cu noi încercări. 

Moartea unchiului ei, Macon, o dă total peste cap pe Lena și, pe lângă suferința provocată de această pierdere, mai are de făcut și o alegere dificilă: partea întunecată a vieții de Caster sau pe cea luminată? Pare ușor, nu-i așa? Dar nu este, pentru că rezultatele acestei alegeri se vor răsfrânge asupra familiei sale, iar cealaltă parte va pieri odată cu alegerea ei. Rămâne să aflați voi ce decizie va lua, dar și ce mișcări vor face taberele pentru a i-o influența, mai ales că în joc este chiar viața lor.

Ethan, în acest timp, face tot posibilul să o aducă pe Lena pe drumul cel bun, cu ajutorul lui Link și al unui personaj nou, Liv, care mie, personal, îmi place foarte mult. Este inteligent și foarte pregătit în ceea ce privește lumea secretă a Casterilor.

Totul se petrece într-un ritm alert, personajele sunt permanent în mișcare și, practic, n-ai timp să-ți tragi sufletul, iar situația se schimbă din rău în mai rău cu fiecare capitol. Pe lângă tot acest du-te-vino, avem parte de personaje noi și fascinante, aflăm o mulțime de lucuri despre minunata lume Caster, dar și despre mama lui Ethan, care este plină de surprize chiar și dincolo de mormant. Personajele evoluează spectaculos, atât cele umane cât și pisica inteligentă sau chiar fermecată?

Vă recomand cu caldură această serie plină de magie, acum, că se apropie Halloween-ul și trebuie să fim în ton. Sper ca al treilea roman să-și facă apariția mult mai repede.

AUTHOR Q&A

Q: What was your inspiration behind writing this book?
A: I wanted to do a book about forbidden love, and what could be more innately forbidden than a demon and an angel? The idea grew from there. I wanted to show that Grace and Josh complete each other and that there are too many shades of grey in this world to make almost anything an absolute. I knew it was going to be tricky, despite avoiding religion as much as possible, but I wanted to make sure in my world it was about perception, belief, and choices and there was no simple answer to the ultimate questions. Frankly as soon as I started writing Josh and Grace took over and did what they wanted, which I know is hard to understand if you aren’t a writer! But hopefully that translates to them feeling just as real to you as they do to me.

Q: Do you think Josh and Grace belong together?

A: Every relationship goes through ups and downs, but I wouldn’t be a good writer if I didn’t do my best to put them through the worst. If they can stay in love after all I throw at them then YES! They deserve eternal love.

Q: Did you have an “aha” moment when you came up with this story?

A: My biggest “aha” moment when writing Soul Crossed was during a very important scene in Josh’s apartment when Grace is ready to be with him. I had the book planned fairly well in my head but realized as I typed that the book was going to wrap up far too soon. I didn’t know what to do, so I thought, just keep going and you can revise later. Writers always revise so it wasn’t so crazy a thought. But what happened was Josh surprised me! He reacted in the opposite way I expected him to and it was perfect. Subconscious at work? Maybe. All I know is I love it when my characters surprise me because hopefully they do the same for you! Did I revise? Heck yeah. But that important moment stayed and still fit perfectly. Can you guess what it was?

Lisa Gail Green lives with her husband the rocket scientist and their three junior mad scientists in Southern California. She writes books so she can have an excuse to live in the fantasy world in her head. She likes to share these with readers so she's represented by the lovely Melissa Nasson of Rubin Pfeffer Content. Sunlight seared my face, and my fingers dug into hot sand before a cool shade fell over me.
