Armed with two years' worth of savings and the need to experience life outside the bubble of her Oregon small town, twenty-five-year old Amber Welles is prepared for anything. Except dying in Dublin. Had it not been for the bravery of a stranger, she might have. But he takes off before she has the chance to offer her gratitude.

Twenty-four-year-old River Delaney is rattled. No one was supposed to get hurt. But then that American tourist showed up. He couldn't let her die, but he also couldn’t risk being identified at the scene—so, he ran. Back to his everyday life of running his family’s pub. Only, everyday life is getting more and more complicated, thanks to his brother, Aengus, and his criminal associations. When the American girl tracks River down, he quickly realizes how much he likes her, how wrong she is for him. And how dangerous it is to have her around. Chasing her off would be the smart move.

Maybe it's because he saved her life, or maybe it's because he's completely different from everything she's left behind, but Amber finds herself chasing after River Delaney. Amber isn’t the kind of girl to chase after anyone.

And River isn't the kind of guy she'd want to catch.

THOUGHTS

For once in her lifetime, Amber Welles wants to be free. Free to enjoy being beautiful, young and popular.

Some of you may believe that she had a sad childhood, but this isn’t true. She was her father's little princess, one of the popular kids at school and boys liked her. She has an older brother, Jesse, who she loves a lot and a successful mother. She isn’t poor or unloved.

But being the sheriff's daughter isn’t always easy, so she makes an escape plan. A tour around the world. Ireland is just her second stop and it may be her last when a bomb explodes only a few meters away from her. Now, she has to give thanks for her life to a mysterious Irish man who runs away only a few minutes after saving her. Finding him may be difficult and meeting him is just the begging of the real adventure of her life.

It isn’t the first time when River Delaney has to cover up for his older brother's mistakes and has to pay for his wrongs. Aengus is not a good guy and, after six years in prison, he is even more dedicated to the IRA. River knows that he must stay away from Amber. With every minute spend together he risks his and his brother's freedom and maybe also their life. But he cannot let her go. And, after meeting her, letting her go isn’t an option any more. The truth about his family's history, his past and Aengus' loyalty to the IRA is what can break Amber and River apart and destroy the Delaneys. In the end, River must choose between protecting Aengus or turning his own flesh and blood to the Gardaí.

Chasing River is the story of Jesse's twin sister. I loved that the stories were connected and that I had the chance to read again about Jesse, Alex and even Luke. Amber is the sweet, gorgeous girl that wants a little bit of freedom and, when she gets it, she has the courage to risk falling in love with a stranger who saved her life and spends six days with him before going to her next destination. River is torn apart between his renegade brother and the rest of his family.

Even with all the IRA thing, I loved that Chasing River was an easy story, without the destroyed childhood, abuse, broken hearts, and all of those other heavy things that are so popular in today's contemporary literature. Amber and River's love story had the right amount of adventure, background and sweetness to make it memorable. All in all, I enjoyed Chasing River and I can’t wait for the next book in the Burying Water series.

SOME QUOTES THAT I LIKED:

“So... River.”
“My mother couldn’t make it to the hospital in time and ended up having me in the backseat of the car, near Castletown River.”
I’ve told the story of my unusual name so many times it rolls off my tongue.
“That’s sweet.”
“Right . . . sweet.” I smirk despite everything. “Better than being named Castletown.”

“I kissed the Blarney Stone.”
“Tourist,” I accuse with a grin. “And how was that experience?”
“Kind of dirty. I wiped my lips right after.”

“Your mother says she needs me back home.”
“Is that what you heard? Because I swear I heard something completely different. How peaceful the house is and how clean the kitchen is . . .”

And don’t forget BURYING WATER and BECOMING RAIN, the first two books in this thrilling series…

BURYING WATER:
BECOMING RAIN

Born in small-town Ontario, K.A. Tucker published her first book at the age of six with the help of her elementary school librarian and a box of crayons. She currently resides in a quaint town outside of Toronto with her husband, two beautiful girls, and an exhausting brood of four-legged creatures.
