My review: Lair of the Lion by Christine Feehan

My thoughts:

 It was absolutely necessary for me to try to read a book by an author with such great recommendations, even if I can’t say I’m a big fan of this kind of romance. 

I’ve read Lair of the lion in two days, so it’s impossible to say that I didn’t like it. But I can’t say how much I liked it either. Of course I knew that there will be hot scenes, and I give this book a big plus because they didn’t start from the first pages. There are teasing scenes before the actual thing and the number of hot scenes isn’t big enough to make you roll your eyes.

The leading characters are nice and they fulfill their purpose. The secondary ones are enjoyable too, and they keep you in suspense.

The action is ok. It’s an adult adaption of a well-known fairy tale, but it’s not boring at all. It has turns, snaps, even surprises. However there are some flaws. For example, the mysterious force. Where does it come from? And where does it go when was it defeated and why? A lot of things are left unexplained. Or, where are the heroine’s special abilities from? Again, it’s not clear. With such explanations – and others – missing, it’s easy to bend the story and to reverse the events at your wish.

The finale is predictable, but it doesn’t spoil the fun - entirely, because the reader will be curious to find out how the things will be solved.

Parerea mea:

Trebuia neapărat să încerc o autoare cu asemenea recomandări, chiar dacă nu pot spune că sunt un fan adevărat a romance-ului ca atare.

Am citit Lair of the lion în doua zile, deci nu se poate pune problema că nu mi-a plăcut. Dar cât de mult mi-a plăcut nu prea pot spune cu exactitate. Ştiam (normal!) că vor fi scene fierbinți şi îi dau un plus cărții că nu încep de la prima pagină. Există tatonări şi asta e foarte bine şi nici numărul scenelor nu te fac să-ți dai ochii peste cap.

Personajele principale sunt plăcute şi îşi ating scopul. Cele secundare sunt şi ele agreabile şi iți dau motive să te țină în suspans.

Acțiunea merge. E o “adaptare” pentru adulți a unui basm cunoscut, dar o repovestire care nu plictiseşte. Are întorsături de situații, neprevăzut chiar şi surprize. Există şi puncte minus. De exemplu forța misterioasă: de unde a apărut până la urmă, cine e vinovat şi unde s-a dus după ce a fost învinsă şi de ce? Totul e lăsat în aer. Sau de unde abilitățile speciale ale eroinei? Iarăşi nu e clar. În lipsa unor explicații pentru aceste lucruri (şi altele) este uşor să întorci evenimentele cum vrei.

Previzibilitatea finalului nu strică de tot plăcerea cititului, curiozitatea cititorului având ca obiect modul în care se vor rezolva problemele. 

În concluzie: a fost o lectură uşoară şi plăcută, dar nu una deosebită.
