Review: Lux 01 - Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Starting over sucks.
When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I'd pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring.... until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.
And then he opened his mouth.
Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something...unexpected happens.
The hot alien living next door marks me.
You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon's touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I'm getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.
If I don't kill him first, that is.

My Thoughts: First, I want to tell you that I’ve read Obsidian twice by now and I plan on reading it a third time when Opal will be out, and a fourth time when I’ll get the Romanian Version from my favorite publisher, LEDA.
I enjoyed EVERY single page of Obsidian! It’s one of those quick, fun, sexy reads you finish in one sitting and can’t stop talking about once you’re done. I’m crazy about this kind of book! It captures you from the very first pages and you end up re-reading it right then and there just to see a little bit more of Daemon.
Trying to live their life without remembering Katy’s dad at every step - who died three years ago of a terrible disease - her mom decides to move from the sunny Florida to West Virginia, in the small city of Petersburg. Things haven’t been easy for them since that happened, but they hope they can start over in this peaceful little town.  Katy tries to convince her mom that she’s fine in their new home (crappy internet access and all) and that she really wants to ‘make an effort’ to make things better, so she goes to meet her neighbors next door, who are close to her age and go to the same high school. But when she meets the boy, the one her mother called a hottie (and GOD! She was right!) things become pretty clear: he’s arrogant, infuriating, rude and… a jerk. A gorgeous one with astonishing green eyes and kissable lips and... but still… A jerk. They just can’t stand each other.
So the dickhead had a name. Daemon—seemed fitting. And of course his sister would be as attractive as him. Why not? Welcome to West Virginia, the land of lost models.
“What’s your blog’s name?” “None of your business,” I said, smiling sweetly. “Interesting name.” He returned my smile with a half grin. “So what do you blog about? Knitting? Puzzles? Being lonely?” “Ha. Ha, smartass.” I sighed. “I review books.”
His twin sister, Dee, is totally different. She’s nice and friendly, a sweetheart from all points of view! And seems eager to hang out with Katy. Did I mention she’s gorgeous too? Sadly though, there’s no spending time with Dee and avoiding Daemon at the same time, so she’s around Daemon on a daily basis. A little too much for her liking.
“Careful there, Kitten. Dee would be pissed at me if you end up cracking your head open and drowning.” Understandable. She’d probably think he did it on purpose.
“Is this what you do with your spare time?” he asked me, ignoring his sister. “What—are you deciding to talk to me now?” Smiling tightly, I grabbed a handful of mulch and dumped it. Rinse and repeat. “Yeah, it’s kind of a hobby. What’s yours? Kicking puppies?”
Despite Dee’s efforts to make them get along, they keep fighting, bantering and throwing mean words at each other. Daemon is always coming up with the same excuse for his attitude: that Katy is not like them. And how could that be? What’s so different about them? She has no idea why he keeps saying that and really – she’s kind of tired of hearing it.
I loved Katy! She stands her ground in front of Daemon all the time and fires back whenever she sees the opportunity. All their dialogues are funny, but seriously - who are they kidding? They are very attracted to each other and the chemistry between them is amazing.
“Stalking me again, I see. Do I need to get a restraining order?”
“In your dreams, Kitten.” He smirked. “Oh wait, I’m already starring in those, aren’t I?”
I rolled my eyes. “Nightmares, Daemon. Nightmares.”
“You were watching me?” Kind of creepy. Kind of hot. No! Not hot.
I forced myself to think about anything—books, television shows, movies, Daemon, the grass outside—
When Katy accidentally finds out Daemon’s well preserved secret – that’s actually a matter of life and death, a very dangerous thing for all of them – she gets involved in his life and he can’t shake her off anymore.  Soon, their worst enemies are showing off, more scary and powerful than ever. Will they win the fight that’s coming? Or at least survive it?
I can’t not say anything about the writing style, although I praise Jennifer every time I get the chance: it’s fast paced but detailed at the same time, totally addictive, really funny. All in all this book is worth buying it’s normal and collectible editions, gathering all the collectibles you find and staking all the blogs that have featured posts.

Happy reading!

Buaha..nevermind! ;;)

Let's see what all the fuss is about! WOW! Super recenzie! De fiecare data cand aud ca cineva citeste o carte de cateva ori inseamna ca e buna de ceva, altfel de ce ti-ai pierde timpul. Chiar vreau sa citesc Obsidian!
