Blog Tour Review: Destiny Gift by Juliana Haygert

Destiny Gift by Juliana Haygert
Series: Everlast, #1
Publication: April 9th 2013
Genre: New Adult Paranormal Romance

Thirty years in the future, a sinister New York City exists in permanent darkness.

A student at the secured NYU, nineteen-year-old Nadine has visions of Victor Gianni, an imaginary guy she has real feelings for. Afraid of being truly insane, she explains the visions away as simple daydreams, but she can no longer deny them when she bumps into Victor in real life. But this Victor doesn’t know her, and turns her away. After the encounter, Nadine’s visions change to those of eerie fates, gods she’s never heard of, demons with sharp claws they are not too timid to use … and instructions.

To discover if she’s losing her mind, Nadine follows the vague directions—with the real, rude and reluctant Victor—leading to a man who knows it all: Nadine can restore an ancient creed by unveiling the clues on her visions, and bring sunlight and peace to the world again. But that’s only if the demons and the other evil forces behind the darkness don’t stop her first.

My thoughts: I must admit that “Destiny Gift” managed to surprise and captivate me right from the start. In this book you can find paranormal, mythological, romantic and dystopian elements, but they are somehow combined together in such way, that you don’t feel lost or suffocated. On the contrary, they just draw you in even more.

We meet Nadine in New York, a city that’s ruled by the darkness just like the rest of the world. Day and night are no longer distinguished by anything and dangers lurk at every corner not only because of thieves, but also because of some giant bats that have invaded earth along with the coming of the darkness and seem to be attracted to Nadine.
The flapping of wings froze me in place. The accelerated beats in my chest. Shit. I stopped without thinking about the Consequences, and now bats hovered nearby. Why Did They always come for me? As far as I knew, They Did not They attack every single person saw When flying around, But They did attack me Whenever there was year Opportunity.
Nadine is a student at NYU and she is very grateful for it, because the only thing she wants is to ensure a future for her and support her family, but some very strange dreams about Victor distract her from studying.

Victor is the boy of her dreams, literally, but when she meets the mysterious Micah, the dreams about him disappear. She starts dreaming about ancient gods, instead. She meets Victor in real life, but the portrait she had made him does not match the boy in front of her, at all.

Nadine starts to believe that all these visions might have a purpose, and might even be real. She embarks on a journey with the two boys, to find out what role is she having in all of this, and also to decipher the powers that each of them have.
"Oh mighty Omi, to what do we owe your visit?" Asked one of the women, bowing.

"Where is she?" His skittish gas scanned the surroundings. "I Can Feel HER lingering aura here. Where is she now? Answer me, nymphs! "

"Who are you talking about, my lord?" Another One Asked, Also bowing.
I liked the fact that the author doesn’t dwell on the romantic side of the story and the heroine doesn’t take her decisions based on the love she has for one of the boys, but because it is her destiny to do so. However, this book does have an adorable love triangle and some romantic scenes spread subtly through the action. I couldn’t pick my favorite of the two boys, and I’m very curious to find out who’s yours.
Distracted with the dark and Lifeless outside view, I Began singing with the songs playing from the car's stereo-mostly alternative rock and pop songs and only a FEW. I had about ten songs sung Before I noticed Micah leaning Toward the front, gawking at me.

"What?" I pulled my hands from the dashboard WHERE year I had been playing imaginary piano without noticing. I flushed.

"I had no idea you Could Sing Like That," he said. The heat in my cheeks Increased.
"Amazing, huh?" Victor said, glancing at me with a gentle smile tugging at His lips. Oh, my heart.
"It is," Micah exclaimed.
I would like to find out more about the main characters in the next volume. I really want to get fond of them and to feel like I’m taking part in the action, not just as a spectator. The story has got great potential, it’s full of adventure and suspense.

Happy reading!

The flapping of wings froze me in place. The beats in my chest accelerated. Shit. I stopped without thinking about the consequences, and now bats hovered nearby. Why did they always come for me? As far as I knew, they didn’t attack every single person they saw when flying around, but they did attack me whenever there was an opportunity.

“Oh mighty Omi, to what do we owe your visit?” one of the women asked, bowing.“Where is she?” His skittish gaze scanned the surroundings. “I can feel her aura lingering here. Where is she now? Answer me, nymphs!”“Who are you talking about, my lord?” another one asked, also bowing.
Distracted with the dark and lifeless outside view, I began singing with the songs playing from the car’s stereo—mostly rock and alternative and only a few pop songs. I had sung about ten songs before I noticed Micah leaning toward the front, gawking at me.“What?” I pulled my hands from the dashboard where I had been playing an imaginary piano without noticing. I flushed.“I had no idea you could sing like that,” he said. The heat in my cheeks increased.“Amazing, huh?” Victor said, glancing at me with a gentle smile tugging at his lips. Oh, my heart.“It is,” Micah exclaimed.
Povestea are potential, este plina de aventura si suspans.

Lectura placuta!

Imi place coperta, e dragutica!
